Brief History Of The Class.
In November 1961, Massey Ferguson (Aust) Ltd commissioned Malcolm Moore Industries to design and build a shunting locomotive for their works at Sunshine. It was to replace the ageing VR F class steam locomotive which previously shunted what is believed to have been quite an elaborate rail system at the plant.
The power unit is a Massey Ferguson 65R which develops 56.6 hp at 2000 rpm. It has a four speed hydrostatic transmission plus a differential and rear axle assembly. Final drive to the railway wheels is via chain to both axles.
